Steven Wilsons new album is basically unmastered to retain the dynamics originally intended. Good mastering will bring out the best of a track and get the maximum possible volume without ruining the dynamic of the song. I would be amazed if this is the final mix of the song, but given that they only just finished recording recently I would say that this is probably unmixed, and of course waaaaay lower than WAV quality. These guys only put out quality sounding stuff, so i'm suprised they released this, but I still think the final version will sound MUCH better than this.

I was listening hours ago on 1 radio and i think it has more quality than this, so yeah, this has to be a poor compressed file. Good thing is they're back and we will listen the new album soon!

Thanks for being a voice of reason. It really shits me off with the amount of compression being used these days - bring back dynamics. Had quite a lengthy email rally with Forrester Savell about it once upon a time, and it basically comes down to 'the artist'. Too bad they're wrong.

its only an early teaser people. look past the early production to the core of the track. its karni, its heavy and it's gonna be awesome when it is released for proper public consumption. full of promise.

I feel like this has to be an unmastered version. The production on this is way lower in quality than the first two albums. Still an awesome track and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album!

You like extremely narrow dynamic range and drums that have no attack? The mastering on this has squelched all life from what could have been a really great track. Fact is it's way OVERproduced. Give me a raw, dynamic, garage band sound any day.

I was exactly like you.. it was like "maan Bilateral had so many things to offer it was like they were shitting salad out of their asses" and now Coal is pretty repetitive on each track and I NORMALLY HATE THAT!! I FUCKING HATE CHORUS REPEATED LIKE A STUPID BRAT ASKING "ARE WE THERE YET" NO BITCH WE AREN'T THERE YET!!!.. Anywho.. it's interesting it doesn't bother me after my 6th listen and I am on what now 15th already it has grown delicately on me like cotton candy. It's really dark, I can't explain why I like it normally I would call this a shitty album for what it's not doing, but somehow this new approach to minimalist darkness is an alluring fact, like Portal riffing the same tone grinding our minds like grated parmesan cheese..

The sound is terrible. The track is excellent, it's just brickline compressed to become paper thin. No impact to any of the percussion. Shockingly fatiguing.

I need to listen to Shrine of New Generation Slaves to wash out the poor mastering...

We are having an issue too, and we are alternative rock, however our likes are in the US. We did pay to promote a post about a new single we put out, and now all of a sudden we have over 300 new likes, and our highest demographic went from 18-24 to the 65+ crowd!! We highly doubt they are listening to alt rock! We have messaged Facebook and they won't help us at all. We posted Red Seas Fire's video on our wall to help spread the word, and we've started a mailing list. Really bummed!

Honestly I do see it as a single piece of music, but taking a note from classical song writing its more of a single song with multiple movements, which are seperated by a pause. Either way I love the album.

This always reminds me of "limits" formed by opinion ie we draw the line at 6 string guitar and 25" inch scale otherwise its ridiculous , No. Just like you can fill a cup with water, you can also fill a bucket, a fishtank an ocean and so on, so limits don't technically exist, stuff can be built to whatever spec the main limit is opinion with other factors like budget but its ok to go as low as you want and use whatever string of the guitar like tool box you dont HAVE to use all the tools for a job goddam its all preference
